We aim to improve the lives of those affected by lymphoma blood cancer through medical research, innovation and support.
Research and Innovation
Lymphoma UK has a long and established working relationship with The Southampton Centre For Cancer Immunology.
Opened in Spring 2018 and led by Professor Peter Johnson, Lymphoma expert, the Centre for Cancer Immunology is the UK’s first centre dedicated to cancer immunology research. Connected to leading institutions worldwide, this modern research centre enables its interdisciplinary teams to expand clinical trials, explore new areas and develop lifesaving immunotherapy drugs. Scientists at the University of Southampton have been at the forefront of cancer immunology research since the 1970s, and have a reputation for scientific innovation and clinical translation.
What is Immunotherapy?
“Immunotherapy” is a groundbreaking development in cancer research which looks to harness the power of the body’s immune system, similarly, to how it would fight a common cold, to detect and ultimately destroy lymphoma cancer cells.
Early trials have seen encouraging signs of success rates and it is hoped through continued funding, the centre will be able to continue its research into this revolutionary form of treatment.
Lymphoma UK is proud to support the fantastic work being undertaken in Southampton and since 2020 has donated over £35,707.16 in financial grants to its medical researchers.
Support
Long term it is our aim to provide support to individuals who have been affected by lymphoma blood cancer, whilst we are in the early stages of developing this new service, we would love to hear from those who’ve had experience with the disease first hand to see what type of support would be of most benefit to you going forward. Please email info@lymphoma-uk.org with your feedback.
